Welcome to Sunday Puzzle, a weekly series for people who enjoy mental exercise spiced with politics, humor, odd bits of trivia, and the occasional furry animal.
I'm very short on time so I turned tonight's diary over to the Sunday Puzzle gremlins. This weekend marks the beginning of the DK-5 era, so between that and the gremlins I think a disaster of some sort is pretty much guaranteed. Well, we'll see. Let's hope whatever problems come up aren't too bad and that I can fix them.
The gremlins really really really wanted to do a puzzle about DK-5 (I think they felt a strong sense of kinship) but I thought that might be asking for trouble so I told them to pick a different topic. Their next thought was to jump on the rec-list bandwagon with either a diary about how evil Hillary Clinton supporters are or how deluded Bernie Sanders supporters are, but I was afraid that might attract too many commenters, which would get in the way of puzzle-solving, so I again had to tell them no. But we finally agreed they could do a puzzle spotlighting an all-time great comic book writer.
I realize there are some people on this site who aren't avid comics readers, but I'm pretty sure virtually everyone here will be familiar with at least some of the many characters this person wrote. They have appeared in comic books, comic strips, on the big screen and on the small screen. Many of the stories (too many to count, at least not without hours of effort!) which this person wrote have been reprinted, and there's a new hardcover collection due out soon featuring the series spotlighted in tonight's diary.
And if that's not enough help in identifying the subject of tonight's diary, there's an additional hint in tonight's diary title. (I guess we have to spell everything out for you people, one of the gremlins snickered as she gave me the puzzle to type up and post.)
If you're familiar with what JulieCrostics are and how they work, jump right in. If you're not familiar with JulieCrostics you can find some explanatory notes below the orange squiggle (assuming orange squiggles still exist in DK-5...)
