Welcome to Sunday Puzzle, a weekly series for people who enjoy mental exercise spiced with politics, humor, odd bits of trivia, and the occasional furry animal.
The theme for the next month or two in our companion series Sunday Puzzle Warm-Up is Candidates Worth Supporting. In the spotlight in last night’s puzzle was Angela Marx, a candidate for Congress in Washington state as well as being a regular diarist and commenter here at Daily Kos.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you’d like to contribute to Angie’s campaign, here’s her ActBlue link.
I hadn’t intended to do a Candidates Worth Supporting puzzle for tonight’s puzzle, but the gremlins insisted I let them do one. Their choice of a candidate to spotlight is, um, interesting. It’s someone who has been involved in a lot of scandals and illegal activities. They ran for public office once, quite a while back, lost the race, and seemed to lose all interest in being a candidate ever again. So this year they’re running again, for the same office they ran for and lost before. (Makes me think of that famous but often misquoted line from Santayana: “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.) Anyway, I think it’s safe to say that no one here at Daily Kos is likely to be casting a ballot for this candidate in this year’s elections. But it’s a fun choice on the gremlins part and, from a glance at the clues they wrote, I think it should be a fun puzzle.
